The Wenning Strength Conjugate Certification (WSCC) was built for coaches, trainers, and strength professionals who want to demonstrate more than the ability to memorize information.
It was created to establish a standard.
AVAILABLE *NOW* (IN ADVANCE OF MATT’S BOOK LAUNCH): Think you’ve got what it takes? Click HERE to take the test!
Note: To maintain your certification, you must be subscribed to THE WENNING STRENGTH ACADEMY.
Developed by Matt Wenning, a world-renowned strength and conditioning coach, biomechanist, and human performance expert with over 20 years of experience. An original Westside Barbell member, three-time world champion, and all-time world record holder, Wenning has consulted with top colleges, professional sports organizations across the NFL, NBA, and MLB (including the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Diego Padres), as well as the U.S. Army and the Pentagon. His expertise combines advanced biomechanics, exercise science, and conjugate training methodology to develop stronger, more resilient athletes and highly effective strength coaches.
The WSCC therefore evaluates a coach’s ability to understand and apply the principles that drive long-term strength, performance, and durability.
This is not a certification built around memorizing a study guide for a weekend. It is designed to determine whether you can think like a strength coach.
Great programming requires more than knowing exercises, sets, and reps. A qualified coach must understand how training variables interact—and how to adjust them when the athlete, environment, or objective changes.
The WSCC evaluates your understanding and application of:
The Conjugate System and rotation of training means
Maximal, dynamic, and repetition methods
Volume and intensity manipulation
Periodization and long-term program development
Exercise selection and variation
Weakness identification and correction
General Physical Preparedness (GPP)
Fatigue management and recovery
The Law of Accommodation
Strength development across different populations
Injury reduction and training longevity
Practical program design and problem solving
You will not be given every answer in advance by reading or studying Matt’s book, alone.
That is intentional.
The objective is not to certify someone who can memorize information. It is to certify someone who understands training principles well enough to analyze a problem, make an informed decision, and apply those principles in the real world.
The Wenning Strength system wasn’t developed in a classroom alone: It represents decades of studying strength science, training at the highest levels of powerlifting, coaching athletes, working with tactical populations, and applying these principles across thousands of individuals with dramatically different needs.
The certification draws from the foundational work of leading strength and sport scientists—including Mel Siff, Yuri Verkhoshansky, Thomas Kurz, Vladimir Zatsiorsky, Tudor Bompa, Dietrich Harre, and others—combined with Matt Wenning’s own education, research, coaching experience, and evolving training system.
The primary reference will ultimately include Matt’s forthcoming book from Human Kinetics, scheduled for Spring 2027, alongside selected foundational texts and educational material provided through the Wenning Strength Academy.
The goal is not to teach you one program. The goal is to teach you how to build one.
Strength and conditioning continues to evolve, and so should the people certified to coach it.
Passing the WSCC examination earns your Wenning Strength Conjugate Certification, but maintaining the credential requires continued participation in the Wenning Strength Academy and completion of ongoing continuing education requirements.
Certified coaches will continue learning from new research, updated educational material, practical observations from the gym, and the continued evolution of the Wenning Strength system.
Certification therefore represents more than what you knew on the day you passed an exam.
It represents a commitment to remaining educated.
The WSCC examination is intended to be challenging. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you will have the opportunity to retake the examination at a reduced cost.
The purpose isn’t to make certification impossible; it’s to make certification meaningful.
When WSCC appears beside a coach’s name, it should communicate something immediately:
This person understands programming.
This person understands adaptation.
This person understands periodization and rotation.
This person can identify weaknesses and make intelligent training decisions.
This person has demonstrated the ability to apply strength and conditioning principles—not simply memorize them.
That is the standard.
